Castel Torre/Schloss Thurnstein is also well-known way beyond the borders of Lagundo/Algund and South Tyrol. It is a very popular day trip destination for guests and locals. The castle was first mentioned in 1276. In the 17th century it came into the ownership of the von Egen family from Merano/Meran, whose descendants manage a restaurant there today. By the way, you can spend a few cosy hours in the grandly designed ballroom or farmhouse if the weather is bad.
Castel Foresta/Schloss Vorst, which was built in the 13th century, is situated on a little hill. The Forst brewery also belongs to today’s owners. The castle grounds are not accessible to the public but it is definitely worth taking a look at them from the outside.
During your stay at our holiday apartment in Merano and Environs, why not take a detour to the bridgehead on the banks of the river Adige/Etsch, which was covered with a glass construction in 2011. Originally, the Via Claudia Augusta Roman road probably ran through Lagundo/Algund there.

Here you can also find probably the most stunning panoramic hiking trail in South Tyrol, the Lagundo/Algund Waalweg irrigation channel route. The route leads via Lagundo/Algund and runs almost flat and is therefore ideal for less active hikers or families with children. The Lagundo/Algund Waalweg merges into the Tappeinerweg trail, which leads into the centre of Merano/Meran town. Take your time and appreciate the wonderful landscape with different native flowers and trees as well as exotic plants that grow there thanks to the mild climate.
