Merano/Meran: the town’s sights and highlights

The Merano/Meran Kurhaus

The Merano/Meran Kurhaus is one of the town’s most famous sights. It is situated right on the Passerpromenade in the centre of Merano/Meran. The house was built for the first time in 1874 and modernised and extended several times over the years. This Merano/Meran sight is probably one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau buildings in the Alpine region. Today the Merano/Meran Kurhaus is a venue for various events. The many spacious rooms are ideal for this. As a result, conferences and congresses, festivals and much more take place time and time again at the Merano/Meran Kurhaus.

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

The gardens extend over an area of roughly 12 hectares over a 100-metre difference in altitude. This Merano/Meran sight impresses young and older guests time and time again. A whole variety of exotic and alpine shrubs, flowers and trees from all over the world grow against the backdrop of the Merano/Meran mountains. Various events, for example open-air concerts take place in the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle on a regular basis. You can reach the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle in just a few minutes from the town centre of Merano/Meran in South Tyrol .

Touriseum

The South Tyrolean National Museum for Tourism is a famous Merano/Meran sight. The interactive museum is located at Trauttmansdorff Castle. You can find lots of interesting facts here about the history of tourism. The museum is ideal for families with children. Here you not only have a simple tour through the museum but watch mechanical theatre, accurately detailed models, films and much more. Merano/Meran race course

You can find one of the most beautiful and in fact largest horse racing courses in Europe at the Merano/Meran race course. This Merano/Meran sight was opened in 1935. The season at the Merano/Meran race course starts in May, ends in October and includes 25 days of racing. Probably the most famous race is the Grand Prix of Merano/Meran Forst. The event attract many horse lovers and betting fans to Merano/Meran every year.

Stadttheater

The theatre is located on Theaterplatz in the heart of Merano/Meran. This sight has 296 seats and a very special ambience for theatre and music events. Readings, conferences and presentations take place there on a regular basis as well. Together with Merano/Meran Kurhaus, the Stadttheater is one of the most famous sights in Merano and Environs.

Sissi monument

Empress Elisabeth of Austro-Hungary was probably the most famous guest in Merano/Meran. Thanks to her the spa town became a very popular holiday destination from the 19th century. The monument is located in Sissi Park near the Ponte della Posta/Postbrücke bridge. It was built by Hermann Klotz in 1903. During the times of Fascism, the work was briefly removed, but restored in 1977 and re-erected in its original place again.

Merano/Meran: more than just sights

Apart from the many Merano/Meran sights that the town has to offer, there are lots of other highlights during your holiday in Merano/Meran. The town is an ideal starting point for all kinds of hikes. Be it walks, adventure trails or challenging tours, everyone will find something to suit their tastes in Merano/Meran.
